Main Roads WA Requirement

Participants seeking accreditation for Main Roads WA traffic management must have evidence of being issued with a valid WorkSafe WA Construction Induction (white card or bluecard).  Successful completion of this course will fulfil the requirement.

Course Content

Training and Assessment Information

Participants are required to select their preferred method of training and assessment.  Kelyn Training Services offer blended training and assessment or Face to Face delivery.  Participants will be required to successfully complete both the knowledge (theory) and the performance (practical) assessments.

Face to Face Practical and Verbal Assessment with correspondence training

Includes two parts to this course.

Part 1 Self-directed correspondence learning (theory) and written content. 

Upon enrolment we will provide you a participant manual and related documentation. These documents are to be completed and returned via email to records@kelyn.com.au. Participants should do this as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours prior to attending the practical and verbal assessment.

Part 2: Practical demonstration and verbal questioning. Following the completion of Part 1, the practical assessment and verbal questions will occur at our conveniently located Welshpool site.

Full Face to face training and assessment

This delivery method is available with a 6 hour duration.

Here you will be expected to demonstrate the correct fitting of PPE including:

  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Hard hat and;
  • High visibility vest, shirt or jacket

Followed by answering general safety questions related to working safely in the construction industry. Approximate duration 30 minutes.

Note * You will select the session you wish to attend during enrolment.

Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Declaration Requirements:

  • Participants must be located in Western Australia at the time of the assessment.

Duration of Enrolment (Remote Learning with Face to Face Practical and Verbal Assessment Only):

Enrolment in this course is valid for a 3 month period from registration and payment.

Pre-Course Requirements

  • Must provide Unique Student Identifier (USI). Participants can apply for the USI at our website www.kelyn.com.au or direct to www.usi.gov.au.
  • Complete a course suitability checklist for this course including Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills as applicable.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills (LLND)

Participants are required to have foundation skills to be able to read and follow simple safety instructions that are written in English.  Participants will require basic numeracy to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs, oral communication to be able to ask questions to clarify instructions, listen to instructions to identify key safety information, tell another person about a construction problem or hazard and problem solving skills to select risk control measures.

This course identifies mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work.

Can I complete White Card training online?

In WA, White Card or general construction induction training must include a practical assessment component.  Training may be delivered face-to-face or as blended learning to meet regulatory requirements.

How do I get a White Card in Western Australia?

To obtain a White Card in WA, you must complete the unit of competency: CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry with a registered training organisation, recognised by WorkSafe WA, which sits under the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) and Industry Regulation and Safety.

Training is typically delivered:

  • Face-to-face, or

  • As blended learning, which includes practical assessment components

You must successfully complete all assessments to receive your White Card. Once issued, it is recognised nationally.

How long is a White Card valid for?

A White Card does not expire, provided you remain actively involved in the construction industry.

If you leave the construction industry for two consecutive years or more, your White Card becomes invalid and you will be required to complete the training again before returning to site work.

There is no requirement to repeat the course unless the card becomes invalid due to time away from the industry.

I have lost my White Card how can I have it replaced?

If you have lost your White Card and completed your training with Kelyn Training Services, please contact us. We can issue a replacement White Card, provided your original card is still valid. A replacement fee of $50.00 applies and must be paid at the time of application.

Is a White Card recognised across Australia?

Yes. A White Card issued in Western Australia is recognised nationally.

Once you have successfully completed the training and received your White Card, you can work on construction sites in any Australian state or territory, subject to site-specific induction requirements.

Yes, we have ample free onsite parking available for all participants.

What are the Office Hours?

The Office is open Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Training hours with the exception of the Whitecard and drug testing are from 7:30 am onwards.  Please arrive 10 minutes prior to class commencement time.

What is a White Card?

A White Card is the mandatory accreditation required for anyone who wants to work on a construction site in Australia, including Western Australia.

You earn a White Card by successfully completing the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry with a registered training organisation (RTO) such as Kelyn Training Services.  Registered with WorkSafe WA, to deliver general construction induction training.

The training covers essential workplace health and safety (WHS) knowledge, including:

  • Identifying construction hazards

  • Managing risks on site

  • Using correct communication methods

  • Understanding signage and safety procedures

  • Responding to emergencies

In Western Australia, holding a valid White Card is a legal requirement under WHS regulations. Without it, you are not permitted to work on a construction site.

Once completed, you receive a Statement of Attainment and a White Card, which is recognised nationally and allows you to work on construction sites across Australia.
