Course Content:

This one day course provides participants the knowledge and skills to safely operate a handheld chainsaw and maintain it in working condition.

  • Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures.
  • Check and maintain chainsaw.
  • Operate chainsaw.
  • Complete and check chainsaw operation.

Certification:

Following successful completion:
  • Statement of Attainment
  • Skills Card 
  • Issued approximately three working days Perth metro, regional may take a little longer.

Pre Course Requirements:

  • Must provide USI (Unique Student Identifier number).

Participants can apply for the USI at our website www.kelyn.com.au or direct to www.usi.gov.au.

Fitness to Train/Work:

  • Participants must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Participants must not be taking any medication (prescribed or otherwise) that may impair judgement
  • Participants must be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 10 kilos unaided (for example holding and carrying a chainsaw for a period of time).

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN):

  • Participants are required to read and interpret text from a range of sources and identify key information.
  • Participants are required to document site health, safety and environment in the workplace.
  • Participants are required to communicate clearly to report hazards, risks and first aid and to participate in verbal conversations to respond to questions and clarify information.
  • Participants need to have numeracy skills to calculate fuel and oil rations plus quantity.
  • Use verbal and non-verbal communications with work teams using voice, hand and whistle signals.

Please bring:  Hand protection (safety gloves).  Participants must wear safety boots, long pants, long sleeved shirts.  If you have your own PPE it is strongly recommended that you bring it with you.  E.g. mesh visor, safety glasses, helmet, hearing protection and chaps.

Catering:  Catering will be provided for this public training courses including continual tea,  coffee, biscuits, Cup of Soup and morning tea. Please contact the office if you have specific dietary requirements.
