Manual Tasking ~ Handling

Content

Background:

In (October 2010) Worksafe (WA) released its most current Code of Practice for Manual Handling, renaming it "Manual Tasks". The reason, "Manual Handling" was not broad enough in its terms of reference and there was a common belief that it referred solely to "lifting or carrying (heavy things)".

By broadening the scope to "Manual Tasks" the current Code of Practice covers a wide range of workplace activities, practices and situations.

Our 3 hour Manual Tasking course provides participants and organizations with contemporary "best practice" safety information that meet the current state and national standards.

Course Content:

  • Manual Handling; tasks that require a person to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, move, hold or restrain.

  • Manual Tasks

    • Repetitive tasks and / or actions

    • Awkward or sustained posture

    • Using plant, machinery and equipment

    • Workplace injuries

  • Ergonomics - workplace design

  • Housekeeping – impacts of poor housekeeping

  • Correct lifting techniques and readiness for work

  • Assistive devices and effective safety strategies


Learning Outcomes:

  • At the end of the course participants will be able to

  • Identify manual tasks and activities in their workplace

  • Identify the risks and hazards associated with those tasks and activities

  • Conduct a manual tasks risk assessment

  • Develop strategies to eliminate or control manual tasking
